Greg Karpain grew up in Artesia, New Mexico. The southwest, the bright colorings and mythology of Native American peoples, the peace, the wind and dust in his eyes, and the quiet informs his work. 

Working mainly in watercolor, acrylic, pastel, etching, mixed media collage, and photographic mediums, his work resonates with color and themes of the spirit, invoked by the image, although, occasionally, a scene from Jamaica might sneak in.
"My favorite activity in preschool was coloring and cutting with those wonderful rounded scissors,
and I guess I never kicked the habit – although now I use grownup scissors."
